NELMS Promising Practitioner Award


Purpose:
NELMS seeks to honor teachers beginning their teaching career, who have one to three years of teaching experience.


Selection Criteria
:

  • Enjoys teaching middle level students
  • Makes a positive difference in the school
  • Fosters community connections
  • Seeks professional development and implements innovative ideas
  • Meets the needs of individual students, using effective middle level practices such as:
    • Incorporating activity-based learning
    • Developing a sense of student ownership in their learning
    • Integrating higher order thinking
    • Fostering curriculum connections

Application Process:The nominator must collect the following, and send all materials in one packet to: NELMS, 460 Boston Street, Topsfield, MA 01983.

  • The nominator, who must be from the same school, must address in writing how the nominee meets the five criteria stated above, in one thousand words (1,000) or less (250 words per criteria)

  • The nominator must collect one letter of support, of not more than five hundred (500) words, from each of the following:
    • A parent or community member associated with the nominee's current school
    • A former or current student from the nominee's current school
    • A professional colleague from the nominee's current school

  • A nominee must write about a rewarding teacher experience in 500 words or less, that is typed and double-spaced.

Recognition: Those that receive an award will be recognized at the NELMS Annual Conference, receive a one-day registration, be given a one-year individual membership, and will be recognized in Mid Lines, the NELMS newspaper and E-news. Winners will also receive their choice of $200, or up to $300 worth of additional NELMS services.

Deadling: The packet must be received by 4:30pm on October 2, 2009.
